Most of its volcanic features lie within Yellowstone National Park, noted for its hydrothermal systems and distinct landscapes. The field includes four overlapping calderas, multiple lava domes, resurgent domes, crater lake, and numerous lava flows and tuff layers, with an original extent of 17,000 km².
