The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi English-language daily newspaper, reported that a crown given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Bangladesh, dedicated to goddess Kali, has been stolen.

India has said it is deeply disturbed by the reported incident of theft of a religious ornament from a temple in Bangladesh, and has urged law enforcement ..

The crown holds deep cultural and religious importance, being part of a temple revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hindu mythology.

The High Commission of India in Bangladesh expressed concerns over the theft of a crown from the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira, gifted by PM Narendra Modi in March 2021. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the thief and recover the culturally significant crown.

The temple is revered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas spread across India and neighbouring countries, thus holds high cultural and religious significance for Hindus around the world.

The theft took place on Thursday between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm, shortly after Temple Priest Dilip Mukherjee had left following the day's worship.
