(WKBN) – Major League Baseball announced that former Cleveland Indians pitcher Luis Tiant has died at the age of 83. Tiant, who was affectionately known as “El Tiante,” spent 19 seasons in Major League baseball.

The former All-Star spent his first six years in the big leagues with Cleveland before becoming an icon on Boston.

Luis Tiant, the charismatic Cuban with a horseshoe mustache and mesmerizing windup who pitched the Red Sox to the brink of a World Series championship and himself to the doorstep of the Hall of Fame,

The Cleveland Guardians' offense had gone dormant since Game 1 of the ALDS and if the bats didn't wake up from their slumber, they'd be headed home for the winter. They did just enough in Game 4, in rather dramatic fashion,

David Fry had a go-ahead, two-run home run in the seventh inning to help the Cleveland Guardians force a decisive Game 5 against the Detroit Tigers in their AL Division Series with a 5-4 win

Emmanuel Clase secured the five-out save, and the Guardians win 5-4 in Game 4 to force a winner-take-all Game 5 Saturday at Progressive Field. Prior to its win Thursday, Cleveland had not won a postseason game while facing elimination since Game 6 of the 1997 World Series.
