Japan: Cyberattack on Japan's airline cause flight delays, cancellations
Japan's second-largest airline was hit by a cyberattack Thursday, causing multiple flight delays and cancellations and bringing inconvenience to tourists during a traditional year-end busy travel season.

Japan Airlines attributed the issue to a cyberattack designed to overwhelm its network with massive data transmissions. These types of attacks, known as denial-of-service attacks, flood a system with traffic until it crashes or becomes unresponsive, the airline explained.

The airline also temporarily stopped selling tickets for flights departing Thursday, but said that there was no impact on flight safety.

Japan Airlines (JAL) said on Thursday that its system network is under a cyberattack, with at least nine domestic and some international flights delayed. JAL said system problems occurred at 7:24am (local time) and it will halt sales of tickets for domestic and international flights for the rest of the day.
