New York Governor Kathy Hochul visited Marcy Correctional Facility near Utica Monday. The facility under is national scrutiny after an inmate died December 10 th, a day after being beaten there. Hochul says she demanded answers from the facility’s interim leadership about the death of 43-year-old Robert Brooks.

Governor Kathy Hochul was in Marcy on Friday, demanding answers after the death of Robert Brooks last week. Brooks was the prisoner who died at the Marcy Correctional Facility on Tuesday, December 10 after an encounter with officers at the facility.

The FBI Albany Field Office and the Department of Justice are reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding the death of Robert L. Brooks.”

A report details allegations of abuse by guards at Marcy Correctional Center, highlighting a recent inmate death.

On Dec. 9, prison guards brutally beat Brooks, 43, who died six hours later at a Utica hospital. A video released Friday by the state Attorney General’s Office showed the officers punching, kicking, stripping and restraining Brooks.

Hochul also announced immediate corrective measures. She already ordered a comprehensive investigation into Brooks's death and instructed New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Commissioner Daniel Martuscello to initiate the termination process for the 14 individuals involved in the fatal incident.
