Washington, D.C.'s NFL franchise is set to return to the nation's capital as part of an agreement between the organization and the District of Columbia government to build a new stadium.

The development, anchored by a roofed, 65,000-seat stadium, will be funded primarily by the Commanders, who would put up $2.7 billion, while D.C. taxpayers would pay $500 million.

Washington struck a deal to play where RFK Stadium -- the team's home from 1961 to 1996 -- still stands. An announcement is expected Monday by D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser and Commanders owner Josh Harris. Terms of the deal have not been announced, though multiple outlets reported earlier this month that the cost would exceed $3 billion.
