A man whose execution was halted will testify at a legislative hearing about a “junk science” law in Texas that many say should have saved him long ago.

Roberson’s attorney, Gretchen Sween, objected to the decision. Roberson, who has spent more than 20 years in solitary confinement and has been diagnosed with autism, will struggle to communicate through a video-streaming platform like Zoom, Sween stated in a letter to the Texas House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee.

On Monday, Robert Roberson is set to testify before a committee of the Texas Legislature — the first time a person on death row has had such an opportunity. Roberson was set to be executed Thursday, but the evening before the Texas House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee voted 7-0 to subpoena him to appear before the panel.
