Nearly 200 passengers recently fell ill on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas ship during a voyage through Alaska. A total of 180 passengers out of the 2,172 total passengers aboard reported feeling ill during the voyage — accounting for more than 8% of cruisers, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Royal Caribbean International is to open a new private destination, Perfect Day Mexico, in Mahahual on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Perfect Day Mexico will join Royal Caribbean’s existing private destination in the Bahamas,

Royal Caribbean plans to replicate its successful Perfect Day concept in the Bahamas in Mexico, with a guest-exclusive site in Mahahual.

Like Perfect Day at Coco Cay, the new destination near Costa Maya will include a waterpark; pools with ocean views; restaurants and bars; and locally influenced elements.

Even the smallest Royal Caribbean ships offer three meals a day in the main dining room (MDR), the all-you-can-eat Windjammer buffet, free light meals and snacks at various cafes, and near 24/7 pizza.

The rates are about 3% higher than Royal Caribbean's current service charges of $18 for standard cabins and $20.50 for suites. While relatively modest on a percentage basis, the gratuity charge increase at Royal Caribbean is the second in just under a year at the line and brings the cumulative one-year increase to nearly 14%.
