Kuemper also has a .333 high-danger unblocked shot attempt save percentage. On the other hand, Skinner’s is .600. Aside from being better than Kuemper in this statistic, Skinner also has a better high-danger unblocked shot attempt save percentage than Connor Hellebuyck, Anthony Stolarz, and Jake Oettinger.

Call it the Stuart Skinner conundrum.  Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch pulled Skinner after the starting goaltender allowed five goals on 28 shots in the team’s 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.

Skinner was excellent for a two-month stretch from the end of November to the end of January, during which he was one of the best netminders in the NHL. That, combined with helping the Oilers to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last year, gives him tons of clout. Don’t forget how good he was from Game 4 onward in each series.
