A teenage surfer survived being attacked by a shark off the coast of Florida as he reached to grab his board in the waves. Rising pro-surf star Teddy Wittemann,16, was rescued by a couple on the beach who managed to tourniquet a shirt around his wounds until emergency responders arrived.

He said he went to grab his surfboard in the sea when a shark grabbed his arm. Thankfully, the teen returned to shore and is recovering from the shark attack.

The teen said it all happened in a matter of seconds. The shark, estimated to be between 5 and 6 feet long, took a nice size chunk out of his upper left arm. Teddy said he believes the shark realized it got a human rather than a fish, and thankfully swam off after a taste. That’s when the teen went into survival mode.
