The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in seven Tamil Nadu districts including Chennai, Vellore and Ranipet.

S. Balachandran, Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, warned that the northeast monsoon remains intense over Tamil Nadu, with the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Chennai,

The India Meteorological Department said Tamil Nadu is likely to receive “isolated extremely heavy rainfall” for the next 24 hours, while warnings for “very heavy rainfall” were issued for October 17

Several parts of Tamil Nadu have been experiencing heavy rain for the last two days. Inclement weather conditions are expected to continue in Chennai for the next four days. Several flights in Chennai have been cancelled as the city continues to witness heavy rain.

Southern Railway announced cancellation of four express trains, including the Chennai Central-Mysuru Kaveri Express, due to waterlogging. Several domestic flights were also cancelled.
