It wasn't just Saturday night against the Canucks. The Oilers star hasn't been drawing penalty calls all season.

This is not the first time that McDavid has faced disciplinary action. He served a two-game suspension in February 2019 for a hit to the head on then-New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy. Additionally, he was fined $5,000 in March 2021.

Both players are facing potential suspensions after drawing match penalties during the chaotic closing seconds of Saturday's game in Vancouver.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety has announced that both Vancouver Canucks' Tyler Myers and Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid will have hearings in the near future. Both were assessed match penalties at the end of Saturday's game for delivering cross-checks to an opponent's head.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid will have a hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety.  The hearing will take place on Monday, per player safety. The Oilers’ captain was handed a match penalty Saturday after he cross-checked Canucks winger Conor Garland in the head late in Edmonton’s 3-2 loss to Vancouver.

The incident occurred after McDavid and Garland became entangled in the high slot for about 15 seconds. Frustration boiled over as McDavid wrestled free and delivered a "brutal cross-check," as described by one of the Sportsnet game announcers, that struck Garland in the head, sending him to the ice.
