One of the things that we know about the world of Star Wars is that the Jedi Order has long been at war with the Sith Order.

As it turns out, Senator Palpatine didn’t overthrow the Galactic Republic by any sort of armed coup, at least not in the beginning with his role in The Phantom Menace.
