An immigration detention facility located at an isolated Everglades airfield surrounded by mosquito-, python- and alligator-filled swamplands is just days away from being operational.

Attorney General James Uthmeier said the idea for the center has the backing of the Trump administration and could be operating this summer.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the proposed facility poses a threat to the water supply, regional economy and public asset value.
