The Minneapolis DFL on Saturday endorsed state Sen. Omar Fateh to be the next mayor of the state's largest city.In a post on X, Fateh says he is incredibly honored to be the candidate endorsed for Minneapolis mayor.

During the DFL convention on Saturday, State Sen. Omar Fateh, who’s running as a democratic socialist, won the party's endorsement, gaining at least 60 percent of the vote.

Only one mayoral candidate has won the Minneapolis Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement since 1997: R.T. Rybak, who was endorsed in 2009. The endorsement carries no legal weight, but it’s still coveted in the overwhelmingly Democratic city and can open party resources to the endorsed candidate.
