The Orlando Pride lost their first game of the 2024 NWSL, falling 2–0 to the Portland Thorns on Friday. Orlando was three games away from an unbeaten season.

Portland hadn’t won in league play since July, and the Thorns were without stars Sophia Smith and Hina Sugita. This was supposed to be Orlando’s league-leading 18th win of the season. It was supposed to be Portland’s seventh loss in its last eight games.

Needing a victory to secure the feat, the Pride defeated the Washington Spirit 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Inter&Co Stadium to claim the NWSL's regular-season title, which is awarded to the team with the best overall record in the standings.

The Pride (17-1-6) had not lost in 23 matches this season while their 24-game unbeaten streak dated to last season.
