State Senator Nicole Mitchell's defense team has rested its case on Friday in her burglary trial, with closing arguments set to begin.

The felony case could threaten the DFL senator’s career and the political balance of the Minnesota Senate, which her party controls by a single vote.

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – After three days of testimony, a Becker County jury found Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell guilty of two felony burglary charges. The courtroom was silent as Judge Michael Fritz read the verdict. Mitchell, a DFL lawmaker from Woodbury, was found guilty of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary or theft tools.
