Port Huron Police are asking the public for tips about a fatal shooting and a nearby vehicle fire in their city.

Port Huron police initially responded to the 3000 block of Vanness Street just after midnight on Jan. 28, 2025, for a report of a vehicle fire. With the help of the Port Huron Fire Department, they were able to put out the flames.

Port Huron police are investigating a fatal shooting and a vehicle fire that happened early Tuesday minutes apart and about two blocks apart, officials said. Officers were called at about 12:15 a.m. to the 3000 block of Vanness Street for a blaze, authorities said. They arrived and found a vehicle just off the roadway engulfed in flames.

Port Huron police responded to a car fire on Vanness before being called to a fatal shooting just down the street. Based on the initial investigation, police believe the fire may have been arson. Police are working to figure out if the shooting and fire are connected.
