The Padres’ Cactus League slate begins Friday. As always, feel free to tune in for Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado. But, really, as long as those superstars are healthy, their spring performance is inconsequential.

Manny Machado frequently leans on the baseball mantra about how no player is “100%” after the first day of spring training. But he truly hasn’t been that in a couple years. He injured his elbow early in 2023 and had surgery that October.

Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is turning the clock back this spring. The Boston Red Sox originally drafted Betts as a shortstop. However, he reached the majors as an outfielder, eventually becoming an All-Star and Gold Glove right fielder for the Red Sox and Dodgers.
