As New Orleans kicks off its extravagant Carnival season this week, Louisiana is launching a new investigation into the New Year’s Day massacre that killed 14 people while the city will get more federal resources to help prevent another horrific attack.

Two exciting events already in the works are the Twin Cities Krewe de Riviere Grand Ball and the parade. The ball will be held inside the ULM Bayou Pointe Event Center on Jan. 18. VIP doors open at 6 p.m. and general admission begins at 7 p.m.

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, is captain of Mystick Krewe of Louisianians, the krewe that runs the event. The official commencement of Washington Mardi Gras is Jan. 23, just days after the presidential inauguration.

The party boasts a six-hour open bar, carnival rides and a star-studded musical lineup including the big guy himself.
