The Madras High Court on Saturday ordered to constitute an all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officers to investigate the Anna University sexual assault case. The court also directed Tamil Nadu government to pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the victim in connection with the FIR leak with the details of the women published on the police website.

A second-year student of Anna University was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused on the university campus on December 23. The accused, 37-year-old Gnanasekharan, who works as a food vendor, was arrested by police from Kotturpuram.

Judges also directed the state government to initiate necessary action, if necessary, against the Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police for having conducted the press conference and revealed details
