Police are still investigating the death of an off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer who was killed while reportedly trying to break into a home.

The mother of a man who was shot to death by an off-duty Atlanta Police Department officer is demanding answers surrounding the circumstances of her son's killing. Driving the news: Valerie Anderson made her latest appeal Monday at the Atlanta City Council meeting,

The disturbing video captures him screaming “Help me!” and “Kill me!” before he “forcibly rushed inside” a neighbor’s home and was fatally shot during what authorities are calling a possible mental health or drug-induced episode.

An off-duty Atlanta police officer was shot and killed while reportedly breaking into a house in Douglas County, west of the city. Investigator Aubree Horton was recently named "Officer of the Year" at the "Crime is Toast" breakfast.

Fearing for his life and in defense of his home, the homeowner discharged a single round from his firearm, fatally wounding Horton inside his home.”

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said they were releasing Ring surveillance video from the deadly incident, along with more details on the case, to push back on “widespread speculation and misinformation circulating on social media” about it.
