More than 200,000 Salvadorans who have lived more than two decades in the United States can legally remain another 18 months, the Homeland Security Department said Friday in one of the Biden administration's final acts on immigration policy.

WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden's administration on Friday renewed deportation relief that currently covers 900,000 immigrants from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine and Sudan, a move that would delay any attempts by President-elect Donald Trump to sunset those protections.

The Biden administration announced Friday it would extend temporary deportation relief of nearly 1 million people from El Salvador, Sudan, Ukraine and Venezuela, just days before Donald Trump enters the White House with a vow to restrict the program.
