The October 3 attack on residents of Pont-Sondé stands as one of the largest massacres Haiti has witnessed in recent years.

Under the cover of night, dozens of gang members crept toward the small town of Pont-Sondé in central Haiti armed with knives and assault rifles as families slept. The gang had traveled from nearby Savien in vehicles they ditched halfway through the trip,

A gang leader said the bloodshed was meant to cut the capital off from a rice-growing region of Haiti amid starvation conditions.
