LAPD Cmdr. Steve Lurie, who oversaw the West Bureau by the UCLA campus, will take over UCLA's Office of Campus Safety in February.

The Warwick Police Department is fundraising to support Los Angeles Police Officers impacted by the recent wildfires. Warwick Police have been in contact with LAPD Headquarters in Los Angeles. LAPD says more than 20 active officers have lost their homes and all their belongings due to the wildfires.

A former Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team member sued the city Tuesday, alleging she was denied a promotion in the unit in retaliation for telling Internal Affairs investigators that a small group of members showed favoritism to those loyal to them and maligned the reputations of those reluctant to use deadly force.

Los Angeles police said "a male was heard stating a suspect was trying 'to light a fire' near the Kenneth Fire". The allegation was later ruled unfounded.

The LAPD reportedly detained two men near Kamala Harris' Brentwood home in the Palisades Fire evacuation zone after potential burglary call came in.

The LAPD hasn't made any statements mentioning "persons of interest." The LA Fire Department said it is still investigating the cause of the fires.

Democratic lawmakers have drawn a surge of criticism since the fires began. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was lambasted, including by members of her own party, for traveling abroad while Californians were forced to flee their homes amid the fires and California Governor Gavin Newsom has attracted harsh scrutiny from Republicans.

The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested two individuals on Tuesday who admitted to setting fires outside of the wildfire zones.​

Officer Aaron Kleibacker, 39, is accused of fatally striking Chino resident Fabio Cebreros, 38, while driving drunk in Ontario on Christmas Eve.

The LAPD has launched an arson investigation at Victory Trailhead, where the Kenneth fire began, according to Entin. "What we know right now is that the incident occurred, started here and about 20 minutes, 30 minutes later, a suspect was detained over in Woodland Hills area by citizens," Dinsel said.

LAPD Commander Steve Lurie had helped in LAPD's response to crackdowns on student encampments during protests over the Israel-Gaza war.
