The Nobel Prize-winner explains how his ideas about protein design moved from the “lunatic fringe” to the mainstream.

The Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded Wednesday to scientists David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for their work with proteins.Baker works at the University of Washington in Seattle, while Hassabis and Jumper both work at Google Deepmind in London.

The academy said one of the discoveries being recognised fulfils "a 50-year-old dream of predicting protein structures from their amino acid sequences".
