The legal fight over President Donald Trump’s order ending birthright citizenship is advancing on a path toward the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Trump administration said LaPlante’s decision violates the Supreme Court’s recent directives against nationwide injunctions and amounts to an abuse of class action procedures.

“For families across America today, birthright citizenship represents the promise that their children can achieve their full potential as Americans,” the lawsuit said.
