We have a First Alert Weather Day issued for Wednesday, mainly for the evening hours through Thursday AM for slippery travel and likely some school closures for at least parts of the area.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s a WKYT First Alert Weather Day that continues through Thursday. Our winter storm continues to press across the region, dropping a healthy swath of several inches of heavy, wet snow. While the snow will increase across the northern half of the state, the rest of the state focuses on heavy rain.

And a third round is likely during the afternoon hours Wednesday. Rainfall will be heaviest north of I-10 and there is a small risk of localized flooding. Although the risk is relatively low and limited to areas that see too much rain fall in a short amount of time. The risk of severe weather is also very low, but not zero.

Chief Meteorologist Heather Haley tracks a few pauses in the rainfall, then a another round of rain to some snow this weekend.

However, given the already saturated ground in flood-prone areas, the WYMT First Alert Weather Team has extended the First Alert Weather Day into Wednesday and Thursday morning to monitor the progression of rain from the second system.
