Officials told millions of residents to disregard an evacuation warning they were mistakenly sent due to a “technical error.”

Los Angeles County residents received an evacuation warning in error Thursday as another fire sparked that afternoon.

I have been informed the evacuation warning that many of us just received on our phones was mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error,” Supervisor Janice Hahn said.

Kevin McGowan, Director of L.A. County Office of Emergency Management, tells KNBC the department does not yet understand what caused the evacuation alert error that was issued throughout Los Angeles County.

The emergency alert caused confusion for untold residents for more about 20 minutes until a second message was sent announcing the error.
