STOCKHOLM — Two pioneers of artificial intelligence – Princeton University professor John Hopfield and Brit Geoffrey Hinton – won the Nobel Prize in physics Tuesday for helping create the building blocks of machine learning that is revolutionizing the way we work and live but also creates new threats to humanity, one of the winners said.

Two scientists who used physics to help develop methods used to build modern machine learning were honored with the 2024 Nobel Prize in the field.

Hopfield, the Howard A. Prior Professor in the Life Sciences, Emeritus, and professor of Molecular Biology, emeritus, shares the 2024 Nobel Prize with Toronto's Geoffrey E. Hinton.
